Hi,

I'm using bugzilla 2.18rc2 and deskzilla 1.2.1. For 3 days now I can not download any changes. When I choose File-Download Changes, Deskzilla starts to download value-lists and stops.

The following problem is reported (xxxxx is the name of the bugzilla-server):

There was a problem connecting to the remote server and reading a web page.
Please verify that you are online and you can reach the remote server through web browser.

Details:
http://xxxxx:8080/query.cgi
connection failure
org.apache.commons.httpclient.ConnectTimeoutException: Forced connection timeout 30000 ms

Bugzilla itself is working OK. I can log in and submit / change bugs.

Another test: If I enter the connection manager and change my login to a non-existing one (to try if I get an according error message) I hit the Test Connection-button, I get the message:

WARNING: Test failed (connection problems). I change back to my real login, test again --> same message.

I suppose there is some change in the network settings - but the network-people say they have made no changes. Any hints for good questions to ask or switches to press?

Peter

Hello Peter,

Look for changes in proxy settings. It is possible that a mandatory proxy use has been deployed at your network - in that case the proxy/firewall will not allow any connections that are not made through proxy.

To set up proxy in Deskzilla, use "Tools" - "Proxy Settings" menu.

You can also test if Deskzilla is able to connect to other Bugzilla's in the world, for example to our bug database: http://bugs.deskzilla.com

Hope this helps - please let me know about the result.

Best regards,
Igor

Hi,
I forgot to mention, that I use a proxy. I checked, it is still correct. Since I do not need a proxy to access bugzilla, I deactivated the proxy in deskzilla. Result: Now it took less than a second for deskzilla to regognise, that there was a connection-problem.

I did something else. I used the other computer in the project - worked fine. So I used its network-settings (which differ from mine) -- does not work with my computer.

As well I tried to access the deskzilla-bugzilla -- same problem.

Of course I rebooted after playing around with my network configurations.

I start to think that the silent updates I get from my company without knowing what it contains, might have changed something. Are there any components (Java VM,...) that do not work with deskzilla?

No, I don't think that Deskzilla components have been changed. It is possible to break Deskzilla by changing Java but then Deskzilla would not run at all.

In this case, Deskzilla cannot connect to Bugzilla. What is the error message when you have disabled proxy settings? Still "connection timeout" or something else?

What is your operating system? Do you have any firewall (perhaps Windows firewall) installed and running? I would check these settings. You can also try to
CODE

telnet xxxxx 8080<enter>

HEAD / HTTP/1.0<enter>

<enter>

to see if an HTTP reply will be given to telnet.

Disabled Proxy, problem message is:

There was a problem connecting to the remote server and reading a web page.
Please verify that you are online and you can reach the remote server through web browser.

Details:
http://anwtest.ggrz-koeln.nrw.de:8080/query.cgi
connection failure
org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpException: anwtest.ggrz-koeln.nrw.de

So no timeout any more, but still connection failure.

My operating system is Windows XP professional SP2 (ever since I use deskzilla).

I disabled my firewall (blackice from iss - ever since I use deskzilla, did not change the config) - no change

I tried the telnet-command (not beeing an expert just typing it). Result:

Connecting To XXX:8080...Could not open connection to the
host, on port 23: Connect failed

Trying this on the other PC, where deskzilla would run, returns the same result.

If you have further ideas I'll be back tomorrow morning.

Peter

What I did? I installed Deskzilla 1.2.1 again, this time using the install-package with JRE.

So I had the problem with the install-package without JRE.

That's interesting... Never thought that one can lose connectivity because of Java version.

Do you know what version of Java is installed on your computer? (java -version might tell)

Thanks!
pwzilla
java -version returns

java version "1.3.1_01"
Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_01)
Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)

Thanks!
