Suggestion: At Select Table Columns window add vertical arrows to move selected items up or down within list (e.g so reporter can appear before assigned etc). Save user having to achieve same effect by removing all and re-adding one-by-one in the desired order.

Suggestion: Implement autofit width on table column display, so that double-clicking on rightmost part of each column header resizes+autofits it (& perhaps double-clicking again reverts it back) á la Excel.

Suggestion: Add tickbox to Query Builder for searching within local/cached database only ie not connecting to server. (Possible overkill option would be displaying yes/no dialog box after a (fruitless) local search query stating 'No results found. Run this query on example.userbugzilla.org?')

Suggestion: Double-clicking on a bug listed in query results brings up an 'Edit bug' dialog box. Prior to trying it, I thought it would bring up a *view* of the bug and its associated comments in a dialog box so that the user could move it around the screen, re-size it - perhaps to open two bugs simultaneously and stretch them to fill the screen vertically side-by side for comparison. A user can see the bug+comments in the lower-pane currently, opening each bug/query result in a Deskzilla window does seem appealing though. It'd probably need to be either a configurable option ('Open bug within dialog box in view mode or edit mode, when selected?'); or, 'view' could simply be added to the right-click context menu too.

Suggestion: Help documentation. wink.gif The mouseover context help is really useful but a help document'd be useful too. Given that there's a help menu already though I'm guessing this is already planned, I know that writing documentation can be tedious!

Suggestion: Evaluate adding in support for OpenID to see if it might be useful.

Suggestion/Issue?: On some bugs I viewed I found the comments didn't always wrap within the window, no horizontal scrollbar was present so to see the whole comment I needed to resize the right-hand window (query results+bug) by dragging it to the left, covering the node/products list. Resized as far as it could go allowed me to see 99% of the comment text (screen res 1024x768).

Suggestion: "Work Offline" mode, enable/disable via File menu.

BTW, the same effect can also be achieved by dragging column headers around smile.gif

Hmm, don't you think that Offline Mode that you suggest below would also address this case?

Yes, it is tedious and requires professional writers wink.gif And also very few users actually read documentation smile.gif But you're right - http://bugs.deskzilla.com/show_bug.cgi?id=84

That's an interesting idea. Are there really many users of this thingie? I guess we have to support LDAP auth first.

Yes, we're aware of this problem, hopefully we'll get that fixed in the next version.

They are similar, I think I was thinking in terms of this being an ad-hoc option for use with an individual query the user's creating. The full offline mode would be accessible from the file menu rather than the box the user was creating a query in and would apply to all user activity, until the user disabled the offline mode again. Of course, if offline mode was enabled, then the query builder tickbox'd be greyed out or invisible I suppose.
I'll reply to the query about OpenID below, just so I can keep this short and make a new reply with info where it's being used.

I would have leant towards no, not so far a while ago; saying I think its designers hope for widespread use, since it's fairly young - rather than it already being employed widely. More recently though its use does seem to be spreading. Anyway, here're details on usage that I could find:

LiveJournal.com/org use it & have since July [actually the team that produce the LiveJournal.com/org code wrote OpenID (along with opensource contributors) so that's unsurprising wink.gif] The opensourced LJ server code supports OpenID so the smaller webjournal sites out there that use the open source LJ code have OpenID available too (greatestjournal.com etc etc).

The latest version of Movable Type to come out - 3.2 released August 25th, included both an OpenID server and consumer plugin. They're not enabled by default, the user can switch them on as desired. MovableType is basically blogging software for people to install on their server. MT is one of the more widely-used weblog programs, it's produced by Six Apart who own LiveJournal; so they've added OpenID in.

CPAN has a bunch of Perl APIs related to it (GPL licensed). There's a Python OpenID library at: openid.schtuff.com. A few small-scale wiki platorms seem to use it. Someone was working on a Mediawiki plugin (Wikipedia etc) as well. Looking at the OpenID site's wiki there're libraries in Ruby, Java & C++, too. The Python client/server stuff's also been ported to PHP: videntity.org/openid/, the same person has just set up videntity.org, a site specifically intended to act as an identity server using OpenID - directed towards consumers as far as I can tell. There're a few such sites around.

Bugzilla - 'bug tracker written in Perl'. Heh, barring mozilla.org sites I think that on the 'net, deskzilla.com is actually probably the one website where it's least necessary to explain what Bugzilla is! One 'Rob Lanphier' is working on a Bugzilla/OpenID Auth spec. Bugzilla:OpenID_Auth_Plugin

The TypeKey thing (bloggers can allow commenting by registered Typekey users, to deal w/comment spamming I believe) will offer OpenID with a TypeKey profile as part of the Typekey thing. The current schedule is to have it live by next Monday. [shhh wink.gif] Seems to be spreading beyond the 'Six Apart' productline (LJ/MT etc) more now anyway.

I think LDAP is probably more important to support though first yeah. smile.gif The bugzilla installation I connect to doesn't use it but I see forum posts here where external auth'ors like LDAP *are* in place on their installations so they will need it yep.

Wow! Thanks for this extensive introduction smile.gif

Now that the feature set for 1.0 is closed and the release itself is going to appear soon, we are gathering feature requests for version 1.1. I would like to have LDAP support there. Once we get LDAP done, we may plan further to support OpenID.

Thanks again for the idea!

Cheers,
Igor
