Full Version: Using yum or apt to add new packages to Virtual Bugzilla 3.2.2

I would like to be able to add some Linux packages to Virtual Bugzilla 3.2.2, such as some X-windows tools, MySQL browser, stuff like that.

I'm not very good at administering Linux systems without crutches like yum or apt.

I read a post in this forum from a year or two ago that said that apt would be available starting in version 1.3, I think it was. The version I have now, 3.2.2, which I downloaded late last week, does not seem to have it, or yum.

I'm hoping I didn't download the wrong VM... should 3.2.2 have apt installed?

Thanks...

Eric,

Virtual Bugzilla 3.2.2 should have apt installed. Login as root, then run apt-get update. Then you can use apt-get install, apt-get upgrade, apt-cache search, dselect and so on.

If you have any problems with apt, please post details.

Kind regards,
Igor

Good afternoon, Igor.

I guess that betrays my utter ignorance of apt... I've been using fedora for the last several years and so am coming from the yum world I guess.

I tried "which apt" and got nothing... just now tried "which apt-get" and "which apt-cache", etc., and they are there.

Guess it's time for me to go RTFM the apt docs. :-)

Thanks...
eric

Oops... the last post was from me (eric) and I wasn't logged in so it showed up as from "Guest".

I'm a little surprised this forum allows anonymous posting... that often creates problems but if none so far, then all the better...

Eric, no problem. There's not much more to learn about apt (at user level) besides the commands I already mentioned. I think dselect would do fine for you.
