The VBS comes configured with a US keyboard layout, I use a UK keyboard so wish to change it, otherwise using the command line becomes really awkward!
I tried 'dpkg-reconfigure console-data' but it said package not installed
I tried 'apt-get install console-data' but it said it's not available
What next?

VBS is stripped of most locale-specific data to reduce download size. The easiest way to solve this problem would be to use a terminal program, as advised in
the other topic.

Ah OK I hadn't thought of doing that workaround. However it would still be nice to solve the original problem so if anyone has done it - TIA
I can confirm from my own experience that using putty for the administration of VBS is by far the best solution I can imagine: I do not need to care about localization issues of the console (& I have to use an German keyboard, which is an awful pain under the VMware console of VBS!) and additionally I have copy and paste features (supporting even the mouse!), which are also sought after by VBS users.
